So, rather than making change for change's sake, our providers listened to advisers and looked at how best to improve the quality of cover they offer and to make it easier and quicker for you to claim.
MediFinancial providers now cover 64 conditions in total, with 19 ABI+ definitions and 20 partial payments.
But, these really are just the headline numbers and it's whats behind them that actually count much, much more to you.
So first, let's take a closer look at the six enhancements made recently (which apply to new policies) for some of the existing definitions, including the most claimed for conditions; cancer, heart attack, multiple sclerosis, stroke and Parkinson's disease.
Heart Attack - Because the providers no longer have any required severity levels, we now make a full payment on clinical diagnosis only.
Cancer - We've removed the severity level required for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, meaning they now provide wider coverage for the most common type of adult leukaemia.
Stroke - As long as symptoms have persisted for 24 hours, providers pay out on clinical diagnosis of a stroke; there's no longer a requirement for permanent neurological deficit.
Multiple Sclerosis - MS definition has been extended; they now also pay out on evidence of two or more attacks of impaired motor or sensory function. This allows us to pay claims at an earlier stage.
Parkinson's Disease - They've removed the requirement for postural instability, which is usually present in more advanced cases, so we can now pay more claims earlier and often at a younger age.
The sixth enhancement is to move to an ABI+ definition of deafness by lowering the required decibel level.
But that's not all; they've added another six partial payments, for example Diabetes type 1 and ovarian tumours. And for partial payments they pay out up to a maximum of either £12,500 or £25,000, without affecting the total amount of cover.
Plus, they've extended children's cover from 18 to their 21st birthday, with no requirement to be in full-time education. And great news for parents-to-be - there's now no minimum child age required, so if your little one is born with a congenital condition, they're covered as long as symptoms hadn't started before the policy began.
We hope you agree the changes made really do count and are more meaningful for you. By adding more value and quality to the contract, it helps to provide essential financial support to you when you need it most.
